I downloaded the VBR MP3 file (161kbps). Allen Ginsberg introduces his poem 'Howl' 40:50 into the file and the applause ends at 107:48. The recording is high quality.

This audio file is, I'm assuming, at some sort of public reading in which Ginsberg participated with other poets. The recording is clear, understandable, and because I have anticipated finding it, phenomenal! Would be nice, though, to have available just Ginsberg's readings of Howl separate from his other poems as well as Anne Waldman's reading. I'm very pleased!

what the heck are these people talking about? Id rather listen to gregorian chanting than this obfuscation of the English language - give me a break - you get a 2 for your recording and a 2 for creativity, but this is vapid and boring at the same time.

violent,aggressive and 'plutonium' kind of poetry of the ressistance and equally well recited.

Thanks I've been looking for a recording of Howl read by Ginsburg. Just listening to the mp3 now, so far I'm amazed.

hi ss. curious. I listened to this file via lo-fi stream, and it was indeed Waldman and Ginsberg, including Howl. Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche, is introduced, as well. Which version did you hear? The stream began with a mighty fine chant accompanied by harmonium.
Virtual visual aid: I'm told Ginsberg set the stage for these reaadings by unfurling a large square orange silk scarf (imprinted with Ganesha), which he positioned himself and the harmonium on. He'd light incense, then tune the crowd with a mantra or chant.
Stream it again, ss, it's worth it.

Thank you, archivegrl. I will restream it. I had downloaded it twice, to be sure. It seems the info on the FTP info page directed me to the wrong file ( I think that's the page I worked from.) All's well that ends well.

My goodness, almost 400 downloads and no one has bothered to mention a couple of glaring mistakes on the downloads info page.
First, the date of the taping must be August 9th, 1985, and not 1975 as stated, as Steven Taylor's activities are enumerated through 1984 as he's being introduced (not to mention Anne Waldman's poem about the Contras in Nicaragua.)
Second, though Ginsberg reads several poems, Howl is not among them.
